Fun Learning
Let’s discover the story behind the letter B. Ancient Semitic people drew a house to represent the sound now known as B. Their word beth meant ‘house.’ The Greeks borrowed this sign and called it beta, and around 200 BC the Romans simplified the shape into the straight lines we write as B. Over many centuries scribes and artists changed its shape until it became the symbol we see in books today.
B is at the beginning of bunny, book and balloon. Make bubbles by mixing soap and water and blow them outside, counting each bubble you pop. Practise the 'buh' sound by reading a favourite book aloud or singing a song about bees. Try balancing on one foot like a bird perched on a branch.
Build something starting with B! Create a boat from cardboard or recycled containers and float it in a sink or tub. Draw a picture of a bear, banana or bicycle and colour it in. You could also collect buttons of different sizes and sort them by colour or number of holes.
